Lake Cushman Shake Down Ride

Great weekend mini-tour from Seattle to Lake Cushman in the Olympic National Park, via Hood Canal, the last mini your before I head off to Helsinki. The last few miles were a primitive gravel road and the views up the lake and into the National Park were spectacular, particularly as we watched dark ominous clouds roll in. Unfortunately when we arrived at the National Park camp ground, we were told that it was entirely full. What? Not even a walk in site? Nope. The Park Ranger reluctantly allowed us to refill out water bottles (“free of charge” he said) and suggested that if we camp outside the park we should carry a personal firearm, “for the weirdos out there.” Good grief. Happily, we bushwhacked our way into a lovely site next to the lake where our only disturbance was a very vocal disgruntled goose who was quite upset that we had occupied his usual sleeping area.

The small wheeled bike is my Bike Friday folding travel bike, which I will be riding from Helsinki to Athens.
